This photo of the door - or doors? - of the now defunct Don's Cafe is by reader and fellow Claptonian, Alix. I like it because it's so evocative and because I remember Don's as one of three greasy spoons we used to have round here. One turned into Palm II, the other - Busy Bees - is now the Polish joint, Adamskis. See other Clapton pics on Alix's Flickr, and get to know more about Alix here.
Gosh, I'm flattered! Cheers!
In other news - I saw the heron at the pond this morning, in case anyone was worried it'd been scared off by the makeover.

By 'evocative" I mean that it reminds me of eating there. Sorry if that was unclear.

don's cafe makes me feel so reminiscent. the bacon sandwiches, the limited menu (far lessas to negotiate about with the kids viz. kitcat or wagonwheel). has anyone heard how gloria and laurrie are surviving chingford? gloria showed me the pots of scarlet geraniums in the back yard her mum had brought from italy a long long time ago. it was so pretty with the wrought iron balcony, it was almost shocking!
