I'm grateful to reader Felix for finding this photo (by Malcolm Smith) of the Clapton Federation Synagogue, which was demolished last July, and also this link which reveals that it was designed by Marcus Glass in 1931-32 and has a sister building in Sunderland. I'm sad that the synagogue has gone. I liked being able to stand at a certain point on the roundabout and see it, a mosque and an Anglican church all at the same time. Soft-headed of me I know, but it gave me an optimistic feeling about the world. Sigh.
