Boris Johnson, hot favourite to become Tory candidate for London mayor, meeting Vi Carpenter, long-standing resident of the Woodberry Down estate earlier today. A representative of the estate's leaseholders - recipients of Mrs T's right-to-buy policy in the Eighties - Vi is not happy about her treatment by Hackney Homes under its much-vaunted regeneration scheme; not happy at all. More on this and Boris's visit when I can grab the time (dinners to cook, socks to change, meetings to attend at the Town Hall...). For now I'll report just this brief exchange:
Vi: "So are you as eccentric as they say you are?"
Boris: "Oh much more so. Much, much more."
Ha ha. He's not really very eccentric, though I am used to high standards of it...
I can understand why Vi is not happy if this post is even remotely accurate: http://www.landlordzone.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=5871#post39604
