The scene of the broad daylight murder of 29 year-old Edward Thompson in Amhurst Road two Sundays ago has inspired a melancholy shrine at the junction with Marcon Road. My photo shows some of its effects and messages. Other messages have been written on surrounding paving slabs, revealing that the victim was known to some as "Pitbull Eddie" and that he enjoyed many long standing local friendships. He had three kids. The Met have said they suspect a case of mistaken identity.
Edward was a family man and devoted to his three young children. We don't know why he was killed as he was a friendly guy whose background would not appear to warrant this type of targeted attack. He is desperately missed by his family who need to know why he was struck down in this way.
CCTV footage of two suspects has been released. Police are seeking witnesses. You can phone the incident room on 020 8345 3985 or, to guarantee anonymity, phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Read a little more about this terrible event here.
