I recently learned that around a third of local households rent privately, a substantially higher percentage than in London as a whole. The same 2011 ward profile data also reveal that over a third of local households - by which I mean those in the Leabridge and Hackney Downs wards are one person households and 15% are lone parents households. Add those together and just about 50% of local households contain only one adult.
Well, what's to conclude? I'm inclined to be concerned. That's because I've been a lone parent and I've lived on my own and found both situations difficult. But, of course, it doesn't follow that all people who live alone wish they didn't or that all lone parents struggle. What I can say for sure is that I'm quite surprised the figures are so high, although they're not much higher than for London or even England as whole. I wonder what that 505 of my neighbours will be doing ten years from now.
