I imagine I'm like most people in that I mooch along Lower Clapton Road sometimes noticing the shops but rarely lifting my eyes to the floors above them or seeing them as part of a single parade within a built entity in the form of a large block.
But scaffolding going up on this section of the street had the effect of widening my perspective to create appreciation of the two layers of flats above each retail unit and the loft conversions above those. The fact that the entire block is to undergo some sort of refurbishment seems to show that it has a single owner and serves a reminder that to own a large piece of property in London is to enjoy substantial asset wealth. Perhaps my News Year's resolution should be to look up more.
