Any evening soon my three younger children will shove their present wish-lists for Father Christmas up the redundant chimney in the front room. Then, at dead of night, the lists will be collected by elves specially tasked - "tasked" being a term now widely used in the service sector, I believe - to do so. Each child had his or her own elf assigned at birth. They are Arthur elf, Aoife elf and, er...I'll get back to you on the third. Of course, like their red-suited employer, these elves are never seen, so we have to make do with imagining...
This is the epitome of seasonal elegance! You are much further ahead than we are in Baroque Mansions.

Thanks Ms B. The third elf is called "Elfie", by the way. Fancy that one slipping my mind.

I thought that I had discovered "tasked" even in Shakespeare. I thought it was in _As You Like It_ or _Henry V_, those being the two I studied on a recent OU course. But I can't find it any of the online versions, so perhaps I imagined it.
