I've often wondered why the British elite has always seemed to dislike federalism. From Pitt's abolition of the Irish Parliament to Blair's refusal to deal with the West Lothian question, it seems there's a long-standing distaste for federalism. Yet federal approaches have been very successful in those former English and British colonies in North America and Australia.
